World Creative Youth Forum (WCYF) 2009 is an international event focused on mainstreaming Education for Sustainable Development. In support of this goal, international groups and 36 other organizations in the Philippines joined the launching spearheaded by Brotherhood of Destiny. Rotaract Club of Tiyende Pamodzi held a Joint Tree Planting Project in conjunction with their three Interact clubs, as well as the Rotaract Club of Chennai in India. Also, the Plant A Tree Today (PATT) foundation, together with Scandinavian Airways hosted a tree planting at Phra Prahdang in Bangkok, Thailand.

Zambia, Africa. Rotaract Club of Tiyende Pamodzi will hold a Joint Tree planting project in-conjunction with their three Interact clubs namely: Interact Clubs of Libala Highschool, kabulonga Boys Highschool and Kabulonga Girls High schools respectively. The Tree planting will take place on Saturday 28th March 2009 at three sites that host the Interactors namely at Libala High, kabulonga Boys High and Kabulonga Girls High schools respectively.

Chennai, India. Rotaract club of Chennai sponsored by Rotary Club of Madras of R.I.Dist.:3230 had a ceremonial planting of 5 seedlings at Royapetta, Chinnai, India as part of the WCYF 2009 launching. This was headed by their club officials Rtr.Hemanath, President; Rtr. Balaji, Secretary; and Rtr. Ramprakash, International Service Director.

Bangkok, Thailand. On 27 March Scandinavian airways took the initiative to present their green ideals to a select group of customers. The Thai branch of this airline invited 30 members of various Scandinavia women’s groups based in Bangkok. The 30 women under the guidance of PATT staff headed down to the lungs of Bangkok, the one remaining green location, the area known as Phra Prahdang. This community forest area is slowly but surely being reforested and restored in an attempt to improve the biodiversity of this important area. The enthusiastic group planted a total of 75 tree’s which added to the ever increasing tally of trees being planted at this site. PATT frequently brings school groups and companies to this site. It’s close proximity to the city provides the tree planters with a unique perspective of Bangkok and shows how reforestation projects can be initiated in the most unlikely places.

Philippines. The main event for the launching was held in Manila, Philippines through the Run for One Life, One Earth which was participated by about 300 participants and 10 trees were planted as a ceremonial symbol. Around 200 trees will be planted soon at the Payatas Ecological Park. There was also the planting of 300 mangrove propagules at Barangay Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City headed by the United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines Zambianga Peninsula Chapter.

“Lights off, It’s Earth Hour” On March 28, at 8:30 pm once again, the whole nation commemorates the Earth Hour. This environmental campaign, which started in 2007, is a call for all nations to save energy and to protect the Earth from it worsening condition through climate change.

Last year, it had gained so much support here in the Philippines of which almost a million had participated and as seen, 56 MWH of electric power in Luzon and 16 MWH in Metro Manila were saved. This year, Earth Hour is heaping for more support as it aims to reach one billion people in 1,000 cities all over the world.

Encompassing the same vision, the World Creative Youth Forum, an international Youth Forum endorsed by UNSECO, fully supports this environmental campaign. The WCYF focuses on Education for Sustainable Development which includes the promotion on the awareness towards supporting ways to lessen the effects and causes of climate change as well as to promote how important is individual action in sustainable development and how our actions affects others and the world.

WCYF call on its delegates, supporters and friends to fully support the Earth Hour 2009 and to do their contribution to this global action and statement on Climate Change. “We believe that this is a major step towards realizing a sustainable Earth in the years to come," David D’Angelo, WCYF Chairperson stressed.

Earth Hour 2009 is your call to step up and save the Mother Earth, by simply turning off your lights and other electrical appliances you had already helped. All it takes is an hour.
