It was just today that I have learned about Firefox 3.5 and well honestly I thought there is already Firefox 4. Based on what I initially see and experience the first major change is the loading time it takes for a site to load... it is indeed faster. I have also noticed that Firefox changed its website icon and also the add tab icon. Based on the results of a SunSpider test on a Windows XP machine Firefox 3.5 is faster by 2,145 ms compared to Firefox 3 (3,669 ms) and by 16,623 ms to Firefox 2 (18,148 ms). But that's not all!

Why is it faster? Well according to the website Firefox 3.5 includes the TraceMonkey JavaScript engine, which gives the browser dramatically better performance than ever before.

Firerox 3.5 also uses smaller memory and with the XPCOM cycle collector, it continuously cleans up unused memory. Plus, hundreds of memory leaks have been remedied.

The new Firefox also has a Private Browsing option. When this feature is enabled, you won’t leave a single browsing fingerprint behind for others to discover. Cool isn't it specially for those who are sneaking to be online during their work hours... bad example :)

The new update on firefox also introduces two key functionality which will surely amaze everyone.

1. Open Video and Audio. Firefox is the first browser to support open video and audio formats, allowing practically limitless new ways for sites to display rich content. The open formats also allow modern web pages to display media without requiring a plug-in or a proprietary software download.

2. Location-Aware Browsing - Now Firefox can tell websites where you’re located so you can find info that’s more relevant and more useful.

With these new and improved features Firefox is definitely gearing up for an upcoming fierce competition with Google as it also launches its Google Chrome OS in partnership with its Chrome browser.
