Hunter X Hunter is definitely an anime that has a superb following and is love by many. Among the current anime being shown in the Philippines from all the networks only Hunter X Hunter enjoys a rating above 10%. This puts the anime one of two shows that beats the barrage of ABS-CBN shows beating GMA 7 on the Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) overnight surveys, the other show being Cruel Love.

The story, plot and depth of the story of Hunter X Hunter makes it a far superior anime than others. In August 25 Hunter X Hunter has a rating of 11.4% which tops all the anime.

Among the anime overpowered by Killua, Leorio, Kurapika and Gons charm are Pokemon Master Quest (GMA-7), 6.2%; Blue Dragon (ABS-CBN) 6.9%; Naruto (ABS-CBN) 7.8%; and Bleach (GMA-7) 9.3%. It's counterpart show, Ang Pangarap ni Cosette: Les Miserables only registers 6.1% viewership.

In the Mega Manila Ratings by AGB on August 25 Hunter X Hunter also scores a double digit rating getting 10.7%. Its counterpart animes were all below that mark: Pokemon: Master Quest (GMA-7) 7.2%; Blue Dragon (ABS-CBN) 3.6%; Bleach (GMA-7) 8.7%; Naruto (ABS-CBN) 3.3%; Duel Masters (TV5) 2.5%; and Midori no Makibao (TV5) 6.7%.

It is also the only animated show across all channels which consistently registers a double digit viewership. Wow!

This is simply amazing since it says that Hunter X Hunter is definitely the best anime ever!

I was browsing Google and I was amazed by the artwork made on the logo. Then when I checked it out I found out that it was 400 years ago that Galileo invented his version of the telescope. Well, Galileo was not the inventor of the telescope per se since Hans Lippershey in the Netherlands in 1608, invented the first practical telescope. However, it was Galileo Galilei in the following year, that made a telescope with about 3x magnification. He later made others with up to about 30x magnification. With this improved device he could see magnified, upright images on the earth – it was what is now known as a terrestrial telescope, or spyglass

So what is the significance of this day?

Well if not for Galileo's invention astronomy would not be as cool as it was today. Why? Well just imagine if you will just rely on your naked eye. Through your naked eye you cannot see the beauty of Jupiter, of constellations, of galaxies and other heavenly bodies which are millions and millions of years away.

So let us thank Galileo Galilei for his brilliant mind and for his great contribution to Astronomy and the advancement of mankind.

Twitter , the bird had been wounded and was taken to the clinic for several hours. People around the world had been very affected and was wondering what happened to Twitter . Based on recent research it was found out that an attack on a lone blogger on Russia apparently created havoc and spread across the globe. Now, I know the reason why my Twitter failed to update since yesterday. So what really happened to our beloved Twitter , the bird?

According to the report:

Twitter crashed because of a denial-of-service attack, in which hackers command scores of computers toward a single site at the same time to prevent legitimate traffic from getting through. The attack was targeted at a blogger who goes by "Cyxymu" — Cyrillic spelling of Sukhumi, a city in the breakaway territory of Abkhazia in Georgia — on several Web sites, including Twitter, Facebook and LiveJournal.

Well perhaps we can say that there seems to be someone who is either mad at this person or want to make the hell out of his life. But the fact is in the computer age an attack on a single person cannot be singled out because it will affect everyone, it is like globalization itself. The web is one global community and everyone that is online and is using something gets affected by a disturbance in that service.

So who was attacked?

Apparently, the cyber name of the person attacked was Cyxymu. Cyxymu also happens to be the name of a town in the Republic of Georgia. His Twitter account is http://twitter.com/cyxymu and well I did become a follower of this person who was apparently being silenced by either Russian or Georgian authorities.

The website Net Effect names Cyxymu as the first digital refugee. The site further states...

A refugee from the earlier war in Abkhazia, CYXYMU emerged as one of the most visible and consistent critics of how both the Russian and Georgian governments handled last year’s war in South Ossetia. Blogging in Russian, he has cultivated a relatively large following in both countries, particularly among the users of LiveJournal, one of the most popular blogging platforms in post-Soviet cyberspace. However, in October 2008, somebody got angry at his writings, and his blog—also hosted by LiveJournal—fell victim to a massive wave of cyber attacks, so severe that millions of other LiveJournal blogs became inaccessible for more than an hour. The only way to reduce the damage was temporarily to delete CYXYMU’s account from LiveJournal, which its administrators did. Cyberattacks followed the blogger even after he set up a new blog on WordPress.com, another popular blogging platform (his account was quickly deleted from there as well). DDOS attacks against his new and old URLs continued unabated for more than six months. We should recognize CYXYMU for what he is—a “digital refugee” and a victim of geopolitics playing out in cyberspace, where free speech is possible in theory, but increasingly unavailable in practice.

This could indeed be a sight of cyberwar that might also be things that we can see in the future. As wars are wage on land and in reality there will also be a war going on cyber space. Since the internet practices freedom of information, it is indeed easy to make your voice hears online and elicit followers. The only way to stop this is to attack the user and shut his/her sites down.

Take for example this case. the attack included at least these components:

• DDoS attack against Cyxymu's Twitter account (http://twitter.com/cyxymu)
• DDoS attack against Cyxymu's Youtube account (http://www.youtube.com/cyxymu)
• DDoS attack against Cyxymu's Facebook account (http://www.facebook.com/cyxymu)
• DDoS attack against Cyxymu's Livejournal account (http://www.livejournal.com/cyxymu and http://cyxymu1.livejournal.com)
• DDoS attack against Cyxymu's Fotki account (http://public.fotki.com/cyxymu/)
• An e-mail "Joe Job" campaign against Cyxymy

Here's an example of what the Joe Job emails looked like. They were not sent by Cyxymu although they look like it.

Cyxymu

So did the attackers succeed? I don't think so. In the end the person they attacked will get more noticed and will get more following.

However, there is another side to this attack. What if Cyxymu is the attacker himself and he did it in order to gain prominence? That is possible, right? He would just put the blame on others and play as the affected party. The result he will be heard, more followers and more hits to his pages. This in the end will make more readers and followers for his cause.

A clever idea indeed... but was his cause relevant? See some pictures below... be wary though for these pictures are graphic in nature...

I was very eager to watch Smallville Season 8 specially when I found out that it was Doomsday that he will meet at the end. It was an exciting episode by episode anticipation until the season finale arrives. I braise myself to watch a very good battle between the enemy that is called the slayer of Superman. And then...

(what will follow might not be agreeable to all)

The anticipation and excitement turn to a single jaw drop and question at the end... What the hell happened? The Clark Kent vs Doomsday scenario only lasted for about 3-4 minutes... some says it was only for about 30 seconds. A very unmeaningful battle in which at the end it seems Doomsday was defeated by Clark after Clark used the Earth's gravity to force him down.

Well the element of the crater and the scene of the crime was the same as with the comics and the animated movie but it seems the aftermath was different.

In review which I have checked most of them says that Smallville had gone way too off the grid for the main plot in which it is indebted for. Some also says that it is Tom Welling which is refusing the suggestion that he should have been Superman at least a season earlier but Welling insist that it is not yet time and the caped Superman should appear at least in a season finale.

Others were suggesting that the new Clark which arrived and had proclaimed that Clark is dead might actually be Eradicator, one of the fake superman that appeared when Doomsday slained Superman. The comment further on suggests that it can be a plot twist. Why? Well, he says that, "...since Clark even says to Chloe at the end of the episode that he doesn't know how he got out of the underground chamber, thats because he isnt clark."

Those were great suggestions but upon reading what the creators and writers of Smallville has in store for the show in Season 9 seems to point out to a new direction. Zod is the main enemy with the season themed as "Clarks darkest hour." They say it will show growing love between Louis and Clark and rift between the Green Arrow and then with Chloe. So where is Doomsday?

For now it seems that the idea of Doomsday is a ploy to invite viewers who are fans of this epic story to watch the show. Well, the effect in the end is that we are not happy about what happened.

The proof of that is the shows declining viewership from Rank 115 (5.90 million) in Season 1 to Rank 113 (6.30 million) in Season 2, the series slowly dropped in viewership. By the next season, Smallville was ranked 141 (4.96 million). This last season, Season 8, it has been the lowest for Smallville. It ranked 152 with 3.74 million in viewers.

My rating of Smallville Season 8?

  • STORY: 5 - means the depth of the story and the overall plot.
  • CHARACTERS: 6 - this pertains to the ability of the characters to portray their roles.
  • COHERENCE: 5 - ability of the story to be coherent as the episode progresses.
  • DEPTH: 5- the effectiveness of the story to relay the full plot and to show the story of each character.
  • MUSIC: 6 - effective use of music in the story.
  • VISUAL EFFECTS: 6 - amount and effectiveness of special effects.
  • POPULARITY: 5 - relative popularity of the story/tv series.
  • RECOMMENDATION: 7 - my recommendation
  • TOTAL RATING: 5.63

  • I am an avid fan of Smallville but it seems there is something seriously wrong with the plot of this series.

Here is a glimpse of Smallville Season 9 via Comic Con 2009. Smallville Season 9 premieres September 25th.
