The movie "Jay" which stars Baron Geisler and Coco Martin seems to be a movie that is beyond the ordinary in the usual Philippine Movie scene. No wonder because Jay was included in about 10 International Competition which includes Berlin, Geneva, Barcelona, Mexico, Bangkok, Bahamas, Korea, London and Greece. The script of "Jay" was in fact the grand prize for the 2007 Cinemanila-FDCP Scriptwriting Contest. The story is simply captivating and may in fact have a touch of realism to it.

Jay narrates about the story of a reporter, Jay Santiago who hosts a reality show which showcases the victims of tragedies or crimes in their most vulnerable moments. The story happens when a namesake, Jay Mercado was brutally murdered in his apartment after taking a masseur service. Jay Mercado who is apparently a homosexual had been the only source of income for his family and now just days before he leave for the U.S. he was killed.

The reality show aims to help the victims get justice and find the perpetrator of the crime. The twist however is that in order to make the reality show rate some things need to be acted out and dramatized. The host, Jay is also a homosexual by coincidence and on the last scene seems to be adding some final cuts to the show by showing that the same thing might actually happen to him.

Not much into the music but the depth and story is really one thing which makes this movie a must see. It delivers one of the best performance yet of Baron Geisler, who is also known for his notoriety with girls and malicious intents latest of which is with Yasmin Kurdi.

Jay - Official Trailer

Here is the summary of Jay as given in the CD:

Jay, a gay schoolteacher, is brutally murdered in an apparent sex-crime. Even before his family hears about it, a TV producer—also named Jay—and his camera crew are inside their house to document their shock and grief. The TV producer convinces the family to let him shoot the dead man's wake and funeral for a "reality show". This will help them to ferret out the truth about the crime, find the killer, and bring him to justice, he says. However, it soon becomes clear that this concept of "truth" owes much to the entertainment value of the material being shot, and the expectations of the television audience. Skillfully orchestrating this "reality show" is the dead man's namesake—a "journalist" who knows that the "truth" is whatever works on camera.
