A Lesson of Human Greed

When someone is down and has nothing to turn to all he asks is hope and a little something to survive but when it is given to him it turns out that he wants more.

This is the underlying lesson behind the movie "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs." A city who had been affected by a change in the economy which from a big town became the poorest island in the planet... then came a flicker of hope.

Flint Lockwood (voiced by Bill Hader), a young enthusiastic inventor who had always wanted to invent something awesome but was rejected by people accidentally shoot up a water changing machine into the sky. This machine turned down rain water into hamburgers. The people so desperate for food more than just sardines (since they are the sardines capital) was so happy about what happened.

From there on the Mayor gave Flint a new life and together with him was the weathern intern, Sam Sparks. Together they made it rain food and Sparks reported it... and they fell in love.

Everything was alright and people around the world began flocking to Sardine Land except for one big problem... the Mayor want more and more. He wants everything... he wants so much food that the machine can no longer take. This resulted into an avalanche of catastrophic food storms ala 2012.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs Movie Trailer

It was the ultimate representation of greed. Most of us always wants more and we are not contented with what we already have. We want to take more and more from nature and we neglect the fact that 100% for real in the very near future it will come back to us and devastate us so badly that our own life will be at risk. We never learned until it actually happens or if we learn and see it we always tend to forget it.

After the Ondoy and Pepeng tragedy slowly we are forgetting the real problems that needs solutions. It is not the people who had been displaced by the floods but more it is about the harmony that natures wants us to have with him. It is deeper understanding of how we as humans can act mutually with nature.

We forget the fact that someone in the government failed to prepare us for this disaster and now there are those who hail him because of his eloquence. Eloquence means nothing if by your deeds you failed to act on the most desperate times. Yes, I am referring to Gibo Teodoro, this is not a character assassination for it is true. If they are prepared lives, property and more could have been saved but they are not. They were caught sleeping and taking things for granted.

Gladly in the movie, Chewandswallow has people like Flint, Sam, Brent, and the monkey Steve to save them and with all the odds change destiny. This happening also points to the fact that in order to change the world and change reality we do not need eveyrone to see the light for it is hard to look at the light but there are those who are willing against all odds to make us see the light.

As Margarette Meed tells us, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
