A pending bill in the U.S. Congress, HR 3261 is threatening to put an end to web freedom or internet freedom.  Stop Online Piracy Act which was introduced by Republican Congressman Lamar Smith will give power to the U.S. authorities to ban and take down websites based on their perception of copyright infringement.  This bill plus the PIPA or "Protect IP Act." created an online internet blackout, January 18.

The Delano Observer STANDS WITH THOSE OPPOSING THE BOTH SOPA and PIPA since it is deemed to be a law which can create abuse in favor of those who has personal motives.  These are bills which are disguised to protect copyright but upon further scrutiny of both bills they are infringing freedom of expression.

Personally, I believe that the internet should remain free from any prior restraint which could be susceptible or bias to a country's personal interest and in this case the United States.  Mindful of this however, online sites should remain vigilant in ensuring that their content abide by what is acceptable and legal.

So why is the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act harmful?

The Electronic Frontier Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for the public interest in the digital realm, has summarized why these bills are simply unacceptable in a world that values an open, secure, and free Internet.  You can check the resons why SOPA and PIPA are harmful HERE.

We invite you to TAKE ACTION AGAINST SOPA AND PIPA NOW!
