I miss writing in this blog and I am thankful for SM Cinemas who have given me a chance to watch the advance screening of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE on IMAX.  That was indeed a double treat since it is also my first time to watch at IMAX.  Well call me noob but it is the truth.  Now, the main question is, it is worthwhile to watch THG: Catching Fire?

The Hunger Games Catching Fire took off from the double victory of District 12's Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta  Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and where the two must embark on a "Victory Tour."  The scenario however was complicated as the districts saw Katnis as a vision of hope and their love has inspired many.  However, we all know that Katniss' true love is  Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) and with the rebellion brewing President Snow (Donald Sutherland) threatens Katnis to fake the love for Peeta or else to suffer the consequences.

All seems to go well until the districts continue to show the rebellion sign everywhere the victors go and so President Snow decided to create a whole new concept for the 75th Annual Hunger Games or the 3rd  Quarter Quell.  This time the tributes will be selected from all previous victors and there will only be one winner.

Again, Katniss and Peete were selected for District 12 and Katniss asked Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) to do anything in order to keep Peeta alive.  In the preparations for the game they must make alliances and get sponsors and surely as the game starts they were greeted with unexpected alliances and unexpected turn of events.

Now here is The Hunger Games Catching Fire Movie Review:

STORY:  10.  The storyline was told perfectly and you never knew what will happen until the very end.  The games turn out to be the usual games but again there were sacrifices and brutality in the game.  Friends and foes were never revealed until they finally show their true colors with ultimate surprise.  Rules will be broken and the games will never be the same.  It was a storyline preparing everyone for the next installment of the Hunger Games, Mockingjay.

COHERENCE: 9.  The story flows perfectly throughout the movie however like other books that became movies there will always be those small tidbidts which will not be presented.  Katniss' stylist and what happened to him was also not revealed till the end.  Her stylist will also suffer based on the designs that he had made for them.

DEPTH:  9.  The story dwells on how the Katniss inspired the districts and how the games will be changed due to a hope seen by everyone.  A new friend will also be revealed which I am sure everyone will be surprised who that is.

MUSIC:  10.  The use of music was superb and it will really drive your emotion nuts.  You will be made to feel pain, anger, sympathy, sadness and for sure you will cry in this movie.

VISUAL EFFECTS:  10.  The use of visual effects was once again superb.  The explosion and the fighting scenes were awesome, you would even think that this one is actually real.  Every emotion was captured in every scenario and the effects were there to deliver the impact to the audience.  The ships were really amazing by the way and add to that is the effects on how Katniss' dress changes and how their clothing during the parade went on fire.

POPULARITY: 10.  Who is not a fan of The Hunger Games?  Well, I think this movie is even better than the Twilight Saga.

RECOMMENDATION: 10.  This is a movie which is the turning point of The Hunger Games so you should not fail to watch it.  Everything in this movie will surely be worth your money and time and for sure your eyes will be glued on the screen and you might even forget your companion once you watch this.

TOTAL RATING The Hunger Games Catching Fire:  97.14%

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is an American science-fiction adventure film based on Suzanne Collins' novel, Catching Fire, the second installment in The Hunger Games trilogy. The film is the sequel to The Hunger Games, and the second installment in The Hunger Games film series, produced and distributed by Lionsgate.

For more information about the movie and screening time you can check out SM Cinema on Facebook or at

ENDING SCENE:  Katniss is on a ship bound to a new place together with three familiar male face and one of the previous victors who was with her in the game.  The future of everyone is at stake and her choice is whether to trust these people or look for Peeta.

NEXT FILM MOCKINGJAY:  The Hunger Games ends in the next film which we do not know if it would be a one part or two parts ending like what they used to do for movies like this.  The film will surely focus more on the rebellion and how the districts will finally reclaim their freedom.  And as the book epilogue goes with Katniss' reflection, "there are much worse games to play."
